August National “Holidays”
It’s August already! And that means there are many new opportunities this month to take advantage of fun, national “holidays” which people love to celebrate online.
August begins with being National Sandwich Month, so plan ahead for several posts on this topic. It could be as simple as a “Sandwich of the Week” photo and menu item. While there are too many of these festive holidays to list here, I’ll share the ones which are best suited for private clubs, as well as a few ideas your club can steal and use to post to social media.
August 2nd – National Ice Cream Sandwich Day
It is National Sandwich month, after all, so why not kick it off with the best kind? Find an article online from trusted sources like Food & Wine or Bon Appetit. Have your pastry chef include a favorite combination herself.
August 4th – National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day
Does your club have bragging rights to the best cookie in town? Care to share your secret ingredient with your members?
August 13th – National Filet Mignon Day
There’s plenty of time to plan ahead for this day with menu specials and wine pairings, cooking tips and videos with chef describing how to grill the perfect filet.
August 15th – Julia Child’s Birthday
To celebrate this culinary legend, make a lunch specials menu from one of her cookbooks. Build up to the day with social posts sharing photos and the menu.
August 16th – National Rum Day
Drinks specials anyone? Share cocktail recipes online. Have a competition between your bartenders and use Facebook Live to crown the winner.
August 26th – National Women’s Equality Day
On August 26, 1920, women in the United States were granted the right to vote when the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution was certified. Share articles and historic photos online. Create a pop-up celebration in the lounge or plan ahead to mark this historic day.
August 30th – National Toasted Marshmallow Day
What a great way to close the month. Plan for a bonfire on the beach or in the fire pit. This would make a great family event. Share photos online. Did you know that the use of marshmallow to make sweets dates back to ancient Egypt? Find some history online and plan to share that too!
What is fun about this content, and why I often encourage you to share these fun national holidays is the fact that your members are going to see these celebrated online anyway with trending hashtags and information from other outlets. Why not participate and bring these celebrations to life inside your club with casual activities and events your members will enjoy?
