Serving as a Source for Information
So often I hear the question, “What should we be posting on social media?” This is a very good question and also a very easy one to answer as there are so many topics you can cover.
One way to think about this is to position the club as a source of information for Members. You may choose to focus on the specific activities in your club, like golf or tennis, or what’s happening in your community or how your committees are influencing club activities. All of these topics can lead to members turning to the club as a resource for learning about these topics.
Let’s use golf as an example here. Many of you offer golf privileges to your members. If you get in the habit of posting a tip of the day – even if it’s borrowed from a trusted resource like golfdigest.com – your members will start turning to the club’s social media account to get their tip of the day. If you can swing it (Get, it? Golf swing!), film your golf pro on Friday afternoon offering 5 tips. Then schedule those videos to post each day the following week. You can repeat the most popular videos on Saturday and Sunday.
If you are a business club which is closed on Saturdays and Sundays, get in the habit of sharing a “what’s happening in town” post every Friday at lunch time. Your members will also get in the habit of referring to your club’s post every Friday instead of searching several different online resources.
We always want to add value to our Member’s social media news feeds. Serving as a source of information will help create daily habits of your members… checking your Facebook page to see what’s been posted or Twitter for the news of the day, even Instagram for a #PicOfTheDay post. Share with Members information they would normally seek online to turn your club into a trusted resource, in addition to all of the club announcements and fun photos you would normally share.
Have you found a way to get your members to interact with one or more of your social sites every day? If so, please share in the comments what has worked for you!
